Trip with my Mother to Blakesley Hall 2015

Blakesley Hall

Mum and I went to Blakesley hall, Yardley, Birmingham, United Kingdom. We went spontaneously on Tuesday 19th May 2015. We was at the hospital because Mum has wax treatment on her hands due to her having Arthritis, I asked Mum if she wanted to do anything and persuaded her to come with me to this little house I had seen signs for driving around Yardley.

It took us only 10 - 15 minutes to get there from our flat. We pulled up in the car park and WOW this beautiful house was right there. A true hidden gem. We went to the reception and asked about the price and what we could see. The staff there are amazingly polite and efficient, it cost us £6 each to see all of the house and a small art gallery showing the house change from the 1800's - 1930's.

We were only here for 2 hours which isn't long but for me and Mum it was perfect. We strolled through some gardens with benches and beautifully smelling flowers. It was raining before we got there but as soon as we got out of the car the sun came out. We found our way around to the Tudor house and it was amazing the door was covered with Wisteria plants and truly took my breathe away.

I opened this massive wooden door and was greeted by a lovely brown haired lady (I will call her Jane because I feel rude calling her "she"). Jane welcomed us in and explained the way people "normally" look around the house and explained there was a lot of world war 1 expeditions laid out. I was instantly excited because I am a little bit nerdy like that.

We were in the main hall of the house and I could here music coming for the corner of the room and laid out was a newspaper and letters. I saw nurses costumes, diferent tables laid with foods and money, bedrooms and a wee pot at the end of the bed. It was overwhelming but in a good way, this was part of my ancestors past they might have lived a little bit like this.

Towards the end of the tour around the house there is a trench and benches to sit and watch a short film about Tom, Frank and Mary Merry who's mother owned the house. We were able to see a glimpse into these peoples lives during WW1 luckily it wasn't a horror story and they all survived and married.

We finished our adventure in the Tea room with some drinks only costing £4, the lady serving was very kind, it was her first day but she did really well. Both me and Mum were fascinated by this house and its beauty, we spoke to all four of the people working there and they all seem so passionate and in love with the house. I bought a marble and a fridge magnet as souvenirs.

We spent a total of £17.60 for 2 hours and it was money well spent. I love Birmingham and this just makes me love my city so much more. If you are ever in Birmingham you MUST see this beautiful house.
